Changing the Direction of Multiple Flashcards

You can change the direction of multiple flashcards at once using the Omnibar or keyboard shortcuts.

When you create a flashcard in RemNote, you choose its direction: forward (prompt to answer), backward (answer to prompt), or bidirectional. If you want to update the direction of many flashcards at once (for example, after importing notes or generating flashcards with AI), you don't have to change each one individually.

Select the Rems you want to update, then use one of the two methods below.

Selecting Rems

You have two options for selecting multiple Rems:

  • Mouse: Click and drag across the Rems you want to select.

  • Keyboard: Click on any Rem in the document, then press Cmd+A (Mac) or Ctrl+A (Windows/Linux) three times to select all Rems in the document.

Using the Omnibar

  1. Select the Rems whose card direction you want to change.

  2. Open the Omnibar with Cmd+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows/Linux).

  3. Type the direction you want, for example "Practice Forward" or "Practice Backward", and select the matching command.

Using Keyboard Shortcuts

As a faster alternative, select your Rems and use these shortcuts directly, without opening the Omnibar:

Action

Windows/Linux

Mac

Toggle Practice Forward

Ctrl+Shift+G

Cmd+Shift+G

Toggle Practice Backward

Ctrl+Shift+B

Cmd+Shift+B

You can also customize these shortcuts in Settings > Keyboard shortcuts.

Note: Both the Omnibar and keyboard shortcuts toggle each direction on or off. For example, pressing Cmd+Shift+G on a set of forward-only cards will turn forward practice off, and pressing it again will turn it back on.
