AI Credits

Because RemNote's powerful AI features cost significant amounts of money on each use, AI usage is metered with an AI credit system.

Each user has a designated quota of AI credits per month for features such as AI flashcard generation and the AI tutor. The quota system ensures the significant costs associated with providing AI services don't rise to a point where we are no longer able to offer them.

AI Credit Quotas

AI credit usage resets at the beginning of every month. During the month, each use of an AI feature consumes a number of AI credits proportional to the number of tokens it consumes (i.e., the length of the message sent to prompt the AI and the message sent back).

The number of monthly credits you receive depends on your subscription type:

  • Free users receive 100 credits.

  • Pro users receive 1,000 credits.

  • Pro+AI users receive 20,000 credits.

See the How many AI credits does each feature use? question on our pricing page, or click the How many AI credits do I need? link in Settings > Advanced > AI, to estimate how many credits you can expect to need.

If you are already on a Pro+AI subscription and use so many credits that you still run out before the end of the month (which is uncommon!), an option will appear in Settings > Advanced > AI that will allow you to purchase additional credits at the same rate ($10 for 20,000 credits). These extra purchased credits, unlike monthly subscription credits, never expire, so if you only need a few extra credits, you can save the rest for a future month where you exceed your subscription limit.

Monitoring Your AI Credit Usage

You can check the current month's AI credit usage and see any extra purchased credits you have in your account at the top of Settings > Advanced > AI.

RemNote will also notify you in the lower-left corner of the app when you reach 80% and 100% of your AI credit quota.

Privacy

RemNote's AI features send some of the content of your notes to OpenAI, Anthropic, and other AI providers for processing. See Can third parties see my notes? for details on where they go and what those providers do with your information.

Notes marked Super Private will not be processed by any automatically triggered AI features.

If you are not comfortable with this, you can easily opt out of all AI features by unchecking the “AI Features” checkbox in Settings > AI.
