Frequently, while taking notes, writing, creating flashcards, practicing flashcards, or reviewing notes, you'll realize there's some part of the overall picture you're missing. To make it easier to fill in that picture and answer your question, we offer AI chat directly within RemNote.

Ways to access AI Tutor

From the Omnibar

Select Toggle AI Tutor (/tai) from the Omnibar. The AI Tutor opens in the right sidebar.

From the queue toolbar

While practicing a flashcard, click or tap the chat bubble in the upper-right corner. The AI Tutor opens in a floating window.

Note: The AI Tutor in Queue option in Settings > AI must be on for this button to appear.

From Flashcard Insights

While viewing the Flashcard Insights for a card, choose Ask Follow-up in Al Tutor to get more details and ask follow-up questions.

AI Tutor context

No matter how you open AI Tutor, the currently focused flashcard or Rem will appear at the bottom of the chat window:

This Rem (and its hierarchical context) will be sent to the AI along with your question so you don't have to give a lengthy explanation of what you're asking.

Generating flashcards from AI Tutor

As you have conversations with the AI, it may offer to let you Make Flashcards from an answer. If you've found a gap in your understanding, this is a great way to make sure you don't get confused again!

Pressing the button opens the interface for generating flashcards with AI and lets you select what kinds of flashcards you'd like to create and which ones you'd like to add to your knowledge base.

The cards shown in the generation popup will be added as siblings of the card you're studying (in the example above, they'd go into the Neurons Document, since that was where the initial flashcard about Glia was).

Customizing AI Tutor

While AI Tutor defaults to English, it will follow the language you write in. If you prefer to converse in a different language, you can set a language in Settings > AI > AI Generation Language, in which AI Tutor will always respond to you.

AI Tutor currently uses Google's Gemini Flash 2.5 Lite AI model by default, as this is a good compromise between AI credit consumption and quality for most situations. You can choose between a number of popular models in Settings > AI > AI Tutor Chat Model:
