When knowledge gets broken down into flashcards, it's easy to lose sight of the bigger picture. And if you struggle with a particular flashcard, having more context and background information on that card can help you find a long-lasting way to remember it. To assist, RemNote offers Flashcard Insights written by AI at the end of each flashcard.
The Flashcard Insights for a card usually consist of two sections selected to be most relevant to the particular card you are seeing. In this example, the Why True and Broader Context sections are showing:
Here we see a Historical Timeline of surrounding events:
Here we see some Near Misses for a concept that might get mixed up with the correct answer or the ideas involved in the correct answer:
Note: Flashcard Insights are not displayed on Super-Private Rems, since Super-Private Rems are never sent to our AI partners, and the Insights can't be written without doing this.
Flashcard Insights and AI credits
Like all AI features, Flashcard Insights consumes AI credits. Most insights sections use small models and consume relatively few credits when displayed, but a couple (such as Historical Timeline) have to use larger ones to work well.
Flashcard Insights are generated only once for each card, the first time you see it (unless you edit the card, in which case they'll be generated again to match the new content). Consequently, practicing the card again will not cost any AI credits. Since the AI may need a few seconds to write the Insights, generation begins while you're looking at the front side of the card so that the content is available by the time you flip it over.
If you'd prefer to conserve your AI credits for other AI features, you can turn off Flashcard Insights, or display them only when you forget a card, by clicking the X button in the upper-right corner of the Insights.
You can later re-enable them in Settings > AI:
