Customizing the Sidebar

Choose which buttons appear in RemNote's left sidebar and in what order, and control which documents and folders the document sidebar lists.

The left sidebar is how you move around RemNote. You can change what it shows, so the places you use most are always easy to reach.

You can customize two parts of it: the buttons at the top, and the document sidebar below them, which lists the documents in your knowledge base.

Choosing which buttons appear

Right-click any button at the top of the sidebar to show or hide it. To change their order, click Customize Sidebar and rearrange them.

Customizing the document sidebar

Every document, folder, and uploaded file in your knowledge base appears in the document sidebar automatically. If that's more than you want to see, choose how much of it shows in Settings > Interface > Sidebar Organization:

  • Unpinned and Pinned

  • Only Pinned

The Interface settings page with two numbered callouts: (1) Interface in the settings list, and (2) the Sidebar Organization dropdown open on 'Pinned and Unpinned', its only other option being 'Only Pinned'.

Pinned section: Shows all documents you've pinned. To pin a document or folder, click the star icon in its upper-right corner.

Note: Pinned documents are unrelated to and should not be confused with pins.

Unpinned section: Shows all your other documents, arranged in a hierarchy.

Other sidebar settings

Settings > Interface has a few more options for the sidebar:

  • Sync Indicator: Show a syncing indicator dot in the top-left corner.

  • Cleaner Sidebar: Hide the Tutorials, Settings and referral program links at the bottom of the sidebar.
