Importing a deck from another app or generating flashcards with AI can produce hundreds of cards in a few seconds. That's a lot of new material at once, and if all of it went straight into your daily practice, you'd be facing weeks of overloaded sessions before your schedule settled down again.

RemNote doesn't do that. Cards that arrive this way aren't scheduled alongside your due reviews. They wait separately until you decide to start learning them, so a large import changes how much material is available to you, not how much work turns up in tomorrow's queue. The first time you practice one of these cards, it leaves that queue and joins your regular spaced-repetition schedule like any other card.

Cards you write yourself work differently. Because you create those a few at a time, in the course of taking notes, they enter your practice schedule as soon as you make them.

Where these cards turn up depends on where they sit in your knowledge base and what priority their document is set to. If you haven't set priorities before, read Setting Priorities and Disabling Flashcards first, since a document's priority decides how prominently its new cards are offered to you.

A document that's part of your current learning routine shows a count of the cards waiting to be learned.

Cards that have already joined your spaced-repetition schedule are counted separately, as the cards due for review you'll see in the Flashcard Home. The two counts are always kept apart, so new material never inflates the number of reviews you owe today.

Similarly, when you generate or import these cards into a folder, a banner will appear showing these cards under a Learn New button.
