If you're migrating from Roam, Obsidian, or another Markdown-based notes format, you may already have daily log or journal files that you'd like to become Daily Docs (“Today's Document” or the “Daily Document” folder) in RemNote. In most cases, RemNote does this automatically, but depending on the application you're exporting from and your settings, you may have to make some adjustments.
Recognized date format
Documents will be recognized as daily docs if they have titles composed of only a date in a recognized format (no other words or text). The date formats supported include:
2022-02-04 or 2022.02.04
February 4, 2022
4 February 2022
4 Feb 2022
4th Feb 2022
Friday, February 4, 2022
...and several variations on the above. Note that MM-DD-YY and DD-MM-YY dates (e.g., 2-4-2022) aren't supported because both of these formats are in common use (month first in America, day first in Europe) and there's no way for RemNote to tell them apart.
If your documents aren't currently named in a supported format, you can rename them prior to importing them to RemNote.
Documents must be at the top level of the import to be considered Daily Docs – that is, they can't be in a folder or part of another document. If your daily docs aren't at the top level in the application you're migrating from, you'll want to move them there first.
Manually adjusting document names
If you don't have the option to change the date format, or to move your docs to the top level, in the application you're migrating from, you can export your data first, then make the changes manually before importing into RemNote.
Export your documents from the app you're migrating from.
Open the resulting
.zipfile that you would otherwise import into RemNote.
Locate the Daily Docs within the zip file. There should be one file for each document. Move these documents to another location on your computer for a moment.
If you need to change the date format, rename the documents appropriately.
If you've already imported the Daily Docs into RemNote (but found that they didn't become Daily Docs), delete them so you don't end up with duplicates. You can do this quickly by opening the Daily Document folder in RemNote, highlighting all the imported docs, and pressing the Delete key.
Import your new
.zipfile into RemNote. Enjoy your shiny new Daily Docs.
