In addition to typing, RemNote lets you draw and write by hand using a flexible set of tools suited to a wide range of study needs: diagrams, mind maps, math notes, sketches, or simply writing the way you would on paper.
There are four ways to start handwriting or drawing in RemNote:
Handwritten documents: A dedicated document for writing and drawing by hand. It can have distinct pages or be one continuous infinite canvas.
Drawing on PDFs: You can use all drawing tools on any uploaded PDF.
Drawing on Images: You can draw directly on top of any image uploaded on your notes.
Inline drawings: You can create a drawing canvas on your written notes. These work similarly to an uploaded image.
Handwritten documents, image drawings, and inline drawings are RemNote Pro features. Free users can create one handwritten document and freely draw on it and on PDFs they have uploaded to try out the feature.
Handwritten Documents
Handwritten documents are where you can freely write your notes with your pencil. They were designed with tablets and iPads in mind, but you can use them on any device.
You can create a new handwritten document from the sidebar's + Create button or by selecting Handwriting while inside a folder.
Upon creation, you can select the Canvas Type you want to use. You can have your document be divided into pages or have an infinite canvas that you can freely expand on in all directions.
You can also select the Page Type you want to have as your background.
Drawing on PDFs
In addition to the usual highlighting and note-taking features PDFs have, you can also use all of the drawing tools on PDF pages.
To learn how to take notes, create highlights, flashcards and make drawings in your PDF files, see Learning from PDFs and Files with the RemNote Reader
Drawing on Images
Hover over an image and press the edit button to start drawing on it!
Image drawings have access to all of the same drawing tools: pen, highlighter, shapes, text, sticky notes, etc.
Image occlusions are unified with the drawing tools, allowing you to add occlusion boxes and annotations simultaneously.
Inline Drawing
You can add an inline drawing in your bullets alongside your notes.
To create an inline drawing, select the + button on an empty bullet and select Inline Drawing. Alternatively, you can type /draw and select its option in the slash menu.
This will insert a small empty canvas in the bullet and open the drawing interface. Similarly to images, you will have access to all drawing tools and image occlusion features.
